This very interesting little set of cards was one I accidentally came across. Literally. I had never even heard of it till the owner of Possibilities (the store where I do my readings) handed them to me and said "Look at these!"
This is not a tarot set. It is probably only loosely considered a divination set. The set consists of 13 large cards, each one representing a month in the Celtic Lunar calendar. Each card shows a woman's face, which is supposed to represent the feminine face of the moon. These cards are supposed to bring the reader to continuous awareness of the Divine Feminine. A book is also available by the author, also called The Faces of WomanSpirit. In this book 20 additional faces of the Divine Feminine are explored. At this time I don't have the book, so I must go by what is present in the card set.
The woman's face is the same in each of the 13 cards, but completely differently decorated and represented in each one. This frees one up from having to take in the main basics and instead one can study all the rich, glorious details surrounding Her. Different small scenes take place underneath Her glowing face on each card.
On each card, there is a text box near the bottom of the image with the name of the Celtic lunar month as it correlates to the Tree alphabet of the druids. Oghamic titles are on the right, English titles on the left. The scenes have representations of the different time of year that the lunar month takes place, so even without knowing which ones they correlate to in our calendar, you can get a sense of the season of the year.
The cards themselves are large in size (6 inches by almost 4 inches) but since there are only 13 of them, handling is a jiffy. The brochure which comes with the cards is a smallish folded paper thing, but it contains descriptions, meditations and meanings of the cards as well as instructions for use and a couple of layouts for reading with them.
One thing that kind of annoyed me was the packaging of the set, the box is big enough to contain four times as many cards with ease, and the cards and brochure were kinda rattling around loosely in the box. This set is self-published by Dr. Torres, whose Ph.D. is in Transpersonal Development. Just for that reason alone, I would suggest buying it, since these kinds of endeavors need to be encouraged.
I actually do recommend these cards for anyone who is interested in working with the Divine Feminine on their path to self-empowerment. The art is fine enough to make them attractive for collectors. Again, this is not a tarot, but it is definitely worth getting anyway. I would recommend buying or at least looking at the book which can be bought to accompany the cards. Perhaps in the future we will see them packaged together.
