The Robin Wood Tarot
a guest review by Linda Gail Walters

I use the Robin Wood deck, in fact it is my primary deck. I use it for my own personal readings, meditations, rituals, spells and magick.

There were several things which drew me to this deck.  Perhaps first and foremost was the fact that this deck "spoke to me". Not literally, of course, but in an ineffable, spiritual sense.

In a more mundane sense, I like the color and imagery of the Robin Wood Tarot.
The images are sufficiently close to those of the "standard" Rider-Waite deck that one can use the Robin Wood while reading just about any general Tarot book and not get confused.

Being a Pagan, one of the things I like about the Robin Wood is that, despite being symbolically close to the Rider-Waite, it does not include the specific Judeo-Christian symbols like the Rider-Waite.

For example the Rider-Waite Ace of Cups has very clear Christian symbolism in the descending dove (a symbol of the Holy Spirit) with a Communion wafer above the cup.  This symbol does not appear on the Robin Wood Ace of Cups.  Another significant change is the removal of the diabolic figure from The Devil trump card.  Since the belief in the existance of Satan is a Judeo-Christian-Islamic concept, it does not fit with my Pagan beliefs, nor is it, in fact, what this card is all about.

I obtained my first Robin Wood deck several years ago but I have not yet
gotten a copy of her new book.  It has only recently been published, and is published through her own company, Livingtree Books.

Robin has a web site,  http://www.robinwood.com, that is well worth
checking out.
