This is a listing of books currently available for your tarot needs, in alphabetical order. A separate list of my recommended books for beginners can be found here. As of this moment the list is just that, a directory of titles that are available. A separate section of Rune Books has just been added! If you're looking for rare or out of print books, try The Tarot Garden, or Alibris. For now, I've added my comments after each book that I have personal experience with, so you can get an idea of what's good..... and what's for you! Within the next few weeks I will be shifting the focus of this page to actual full reviews of each book, but the links to the rest of the books will remain.

All about Tarot ~ Hali Morag, 1999 -- looks really nice, though I haven't gotten a copy to check out yet..... but it's fairly substantial and Morag's other book is good solid information, so this one should be too.....
The Ancestral Path Tarot : Paths to Wisdom Using the Ancestral Path Tarot ~ Tracey Hoover, 1997 -- This deck-specific book is an excellent review of all 78 cards of the Ancestral Path Tarot deck and also has a lot of other related information regarding different cultural and tribal systems in place around the world, from which this deck's symbolism is extracted.
The Ancient Tarot and Its Symbolism: A Guide to the Secret Keys of the Tarot Cards ~ David Lemieux, 1985
The Art of Tarot (Tiny Folios) ~ Christina Olsen, 1995
Baseball Tarot : The Cards Explained ~ Mark Lerner, Laura Philips, 1999 -- This is a deck-specific book which has a full review of the entire 78 card deck Baseball Tarot. Spreads and layouts are included, as well as a great overview and illustrations with all of the divinatory meanings. One of the better deck-specific books out on the market today!
The Bible and the Tarot ~ Corinne Heline, 1997 -- This book is getting harder and harder to find. It won't teach you *how* to read the tarot, but takes an in-depth look at the correlations between the tarot and the Bible. Not for beginners, but an excellent resource for the advanced tarot student.
The Book of Tarot ~ Susan Gerulskis-Estes, 1996 -- this deck-specific book deals with the Morgan-Greer Tarot and is geared for the beginner. It is concise and thorough and not too expensive.

Choice Centered Tarot ~ Gail Fairfield, 1997 -- excellent book.
Classic Tarot Spreads ~ Sandor Konraad, 1985 -- great tarot source for spreads. I have this in my personal collection and like it a lot. The Tarot School has also reviewed it favorably in a recent edition of their weekly newsletter, Tarot Tips.

The Complete Book of Tarot : A Step-By-Step Guide to Reading the Cards ~ Juliet Sharman-Burke, 1996
Complete Book of Tarot Spreads ~ Evelin Burger, Johannes Fiebig, 1997 -- I also have this one and like it a lot, although it claims to have a lot of spreads and, while it does have a good amount, many of them are single card spreads or repeat patterns with different meanings. What I like about it is that it shows that you can essentially modify any of these spreads and have success with them.
The Complete Guide to Tarot Reading ~ Hali Morag, 1998 -- excellent first book on tarot for those who are not planning to delve too deeply into the esoteric aspects of divination. This book is illustrated with the Rider-Waite.
A Complete Guide to the Tarot ~ Eden Gray, 1983 -- I used this as the text book for my tarot classes until Joan Bunning's book came out, and now I still recommend it as the best quick-reference to carry around to refer to when first learning to read. It's short but it explains the symbolism in the cards and what it means. Illustrated with the Rider-Waite deck.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot and Fortune-Telling ~ Arlene Tognetti, et al, 1999 -- if you like the CIG series you will be familiar with their approach to things. They approach tarot much the same way. Some of the stuff in this book is excellent. As always there are parts that are not as good, but it's not bad overall, and I like the way they organize and lay out the information so it's easy to find and use.
The Complete Illustrated Guide to Tarot : How to Unlock the Secrets of the Tarot ~ Rachel Pollack, 1999 -- beautiful full color coffee table type book on tarot with real meat on its bones. part of a series of books on new age topics, so those of you who are compulsive collectors will also need to get their palmistry, numerology and so on. LOL
The Cosmic Tarot ~ Jean Huets, 1997 -- deck-specific book which has a lot of information on the Cosmic Tarot. Full review of all 78 cards plus spreads and instructions.
The Cosmic Tarot: Signposts Along The Path ~ Laura Clarson, 1995 -- look, the Cosmic Tarot is so cool it has TWO deck-specific books! personally I like this one better of the two. This explains who some of the movie stars are in the cards. Also I like Clarson's approach to tarot.

The Dragon Tarot ~ Terry Donaldson, Peter Pracownik, 1996 -- this is a deck-specific book explaining the Dragon Tarot deck which is very popular. Aside from divinatory meanings of all 78 cards, and spreads and instructions, this book also has some information on dragon lore which is interesting.
Earthfire: A Tale of Transformation ~ Robert Simmons, 2000 -- this is one of the best works of FICTION I've read in a long time, but it covers tarot among its extensive metaphysical topics. Definitely a must read!
Easy Tarot Guide ~ Marcia Masino, 1988
Eileen Connolly's Tarot : The First Handbook for the Master ~ Eileen Connolly, et al, 1996 -- this is book THREE in a series. Master means you don't read this when you're first starting out. She has an Apprentice guide for the beginner, and a Journeyman for the intermediate. This is the hard one. If you like the Connolly deck, and want to really work with it a lot, buy all three and plan on spending a LOT of time with them.
The Element Tarot Handbook: An Initiation into the Key Elements of the Tarot ~ Naomi Ozaniec, 1998 -- nice quick read on tarot.
The Encyclopedia of Tarot Vol 1 ~ Stuart R. Kaplan, 1978 -- this is a must have for the collector. BIG book.
The Encyclopedia of Tarot Vol 2 ~ Stuart R. Kaplan, 1988 -- so is this one. BIGGER book. mostly historical decks.
The Encyclopedia of Tarot Vol 3 ~ Stuart R. Kaplan, 1990 -- this is the best one of all, and a must have for the collector, getting hard to find. BIGGEST book gruff.
Enochian Tarot (Llewellyn's High Magick) ~ Gerald Schueler, 1989 -- this deck-specific book explains in great detail how to work with the Enochian Tarot deck. This deck has been out of print for a while but Llewellyn is reprinting it in the Summer of 2000 so take heart! Those of you who are interested in getting it should also read this book!
Exploring The Tarot ~ Carl Japikse, 1989
The Gill Tarot ~ Elizabeth Josephine Gill , 1997 -- this deck-specific book covers the 78 cards of the Gill Tarot deck. This deck is tricky so I would definitely recommend the book if you are using the deck.
The Gnostic Tarot: Mandelas for Personal Transformation ~ Lee Irwin, 1998 -- looks good, it's done by Weiser Books and all their stuff is really nice, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
Granny Jones Australian Tarot Book ~ Granny Jones, Rebecca Jones, 1995 -- you can't get the deck anymore, unless you live down under, but you can read about it here!
The Haindl Tarot: The Major Arcana Vol 1 ~ Rachel Pollack, 1990 -- the Haindl deck is so rich with symbolism that it requires two volumes to cover it! This volume handles the 22 cards of the Major Arcana and has a ton of information on the cards.
The Haindl Tarot: The Minor Arcana Vol 2 ~ Rachel Pollack, 1990 -- okay, this is the part which covers the 56 cards of the Minor Arcana of the Haindl Tarot. You should really buy these two volumes together. You don't have to, but you should.
The Halloween Tarot ~ Karin Lee, Kipling West, 1997 -- deck-specific on a deck that is a LOT of fun, the Halloween Tarot. Also has a lot of neat stuff on myths and legends of Halloween.
Hallowquest : The Arthurian Tarot Course:A Tarot Journey Through the Arthurian World ~ Caitlin Matthews, John Matthews, 1998 -- Wonderful stuff, all of it. Definite must-have if you use the Arthurian Tarot. Not to be confused with the Legend Arthurian Tarot from Llewellyn. This is the Aquarian Press deck we're talking about here. Just as neat but totally different.
The Hanson-Roberts Tarot Companion ~ Susan Hansson, 1998 -- actually a very thorough and nice deck-specific book on the Hanson-Roberts Tarot deck. There already was a book covering it, by Laura Clarson, but now it has two. Guess that puts it right up there with the Cosmic Tarot!
How to Read the Tarot (Llewellyn's How To Series) ~ Sylvia Abraham, 1994 -- simple and effective. And cheap. Don't forget cheap. Not everyone can afford those $25 books.
How to Use Tarot Spreads (Llewellyn's How to Series) ~ Sylvia Abraham, 1997 -- about the same. straightforward and not a lot of money.
Inspiration Tarot : A Workbook for Understanding and Creating Your Own Tarot Deck ~ Gail Fairfield, et al, 1991 -- well there's not a lot to say about the Inspiration Tarot Deck. It's a blank deck and you can draw your own tarot on it. This book helps you decide how and what to put on your deck. If you decide to make your own deck, this book is invaluable.
Introduction to the Golden Dawn Tarot ~ Robert Wang, 1989 -- deck-specific book on a deck which really needs the book to get the most out of it. If you have the Golden Dawn Tarot deck, BUY THIS BOOK. You will not be sorry. In fact, you might be really pleased!

Kalevala Tarot ~ Kalervo Aaltonen, Taina Pailos, 1997 -- another deck-specific book, this one is on the Kalevala Tarot deck. Explores Finnish legend and lore and explains the symbology of the deck. This is a hard deck to understand without the book, but a charming one if you know what you're looking at.

Learning the Tarot : A Tarot Book for Beginners ~ Joan Bunning, 1998 -- this is the best book for beginners which I have ever read and I use it as the textbook for my tarot classes and I recommend it most highly. You will never find a better textbook for learning the tarot, as the title says. Also you can get support from the author on her website. How can you go wrong with a deal like that?
Legend (book for the Legend: the Arthurian Tarot) ~ Anna-Marie Ferguson, 1995 -- oh yeah, gotta have that for the Legend: Arthurian Tarot deck. How else will you understand all those Arthurian correspondences? Trust me, it's worth it.
Living the Tarot ~ Amber Jayanti, 1993 -- neat book. uses the BOTA Tarot deck. Meditations and lessons on using tarot in your life in general. Good second step for the advancing student.
The Lord of the Rings Tarot Book ~ Terry Donaldson, Peter Pracownik, 1997 -- Since the Lord of the Rings Tarot deck is also a roleplaying game deck, you NEED this book to learn how to play the game. It goes a long way towards helping you figure out the meanings and the correspondences between Tolkien and tarot.
The Magical World of the Tarot: Fourfold Mirror of the Universe ~ Gareth Knight, 1996 -- I love this book. LOVE it! Set up like a series of lectures that have been transcribed, this book is the essential tarot Q&A for anyone who is interested in taking their tarot studies one step further.
Making Ritual with Motherpeace Tarot Cards: Multicultural, Woman-Centered Practices for Spiritual Growth ~ Vicki Noble, 1999 -- there are a gazillion books on the Motherpeace Tarot deck, this is a good one to have if you are using the cards to work with feminist magic in your life. This is not a how-to on reading the cards though. It is deck-specific to the Motherpeace Round Tarot deck.
Mastering the Tarot ~ Eden Gray, 1995 -- another short and sweet quick reference book on tarot. I like Complete Guide better but this is also fine.
Medicine Woman Inner Guidebook ~ Carol Bridges, 1992 -- this neat book is deck-specific for the Medicine Woman Tarot and has a LOT of neat meditation and meaning for each card.
Motherpeace : A Way to the Goddess Through Myth, Art, and Tarot ~ Vicki Noble, 1994 -- see, what did I tell you. A gazillion of them. Look how many there are! And they're all really good! If you like the Motherpeace Round Tarot deck you should buy them all and make a career out of it already. They did!
Motherpeace Tarot Guidebook ~ Karen Vogel, Vicki Noble, 1997 -- this is the short and sweet version. If you only want to buy one book for this deck, this is the one to get. It's got what you need but no more and no less. Small and less money too.
Motherpeace Tarot Playbook ~ Vicki Noble, et al, 1986 -- and then there is the workbook. you can write in this one, which is helpful for a lot of exercises for learning tarot. If you like the Motherpeace Round Tarot you can really go far with it.
The Mystical Tarot ~ Rosemary Ellen Guiley, 1991 -- I bought this online thinking it was a big book and it's not. A regular paperback sized book, but thick, this is a nice quickie reference for the Rider-Waite and all of that type of deck.
The Mythic Tarot Workbook ~ Juliet Sharman-Burke, 1988 -- deck-specific workbook dealing with the Mythic Tarot. Excellent deck and an excellent workbook.
Navigators Tarot of the Mystic Sea ~ Julia A. Turk, 1997 -- if you have this deck, you SO need this book. You can't imagine how much you need this book. There is sooooo much you don't understand about this deck until you get this book. I was blown away by it.
New Age Tarot; Guide to the Thoth Deck ~ James Wanless, 1997 -- Crowley's deck explained by one of the most dynamic individuals in tarot today. This book is getting hard to find. Worth getting.
New Golden Dawn Ritual Tarot : Keys to the Rituals, Symbolism, Magic, and Divination (Llewellyn's New Age Tarot Series) ~ Chic Cicero, Sandra Tabatha Cicero, 1991

Pictorial Key to the Tarot ~ Arthur Edward Waite, 1975 -- the absolutely first word on what those cards mean. Definitely worth getting when you get to the point of wondering, what was he thinking when he said to put a flower THERE?!?!?
Pocket Guide to the Tarot ~ Alan Oken, 1996 -- it's so cute! Nice little book to carry around. Will actually fit in your purse or bag and might even fit in your tarot box if there is room.
Power Tarot: More Than 100 Spreads That Give Specific Answers to Your Most Important Questions ~ Trish MacGregor, Phyllis Vega, 1998 -- yes, there are really that many spreads in here! But it's not just a list of spreads, it explains how to USE spreads to get the answers you seek. So it's a really good book to have for a lot of reasons. Easy to read too.

Qabalistic Tarot: A Textbook of Occult Philosophy ~ Robert Wang, 1983 -- hard to find text on the tarot which many people find to be a LOT of help in terms of the more esoteric stuff.
The Rabbi's Tarot (Llewellyn's New Age Tarot Series) ~ Daphna Moore, Daphan Ruth Moore, 1989
Reading Tarot Cards : A Guide to the New Palladini Tarot ~ David Palladini, Susan Hansson, 1997 -- this is a deck-specific book for the New Palladini Tarot deck, which is done by the same guy who did the Aquarian Tarot. This book is surprisingly chock-full of information and really nicely done.

Renaissance Tarot Book : A Guide to the Renaissance Tarot ~ Brian Williams, 1997 -- wow. you want a good book on the history of the tarot? read this one. You want to learn more about the Renaissance Tarot deck? read this one. Tremendous book.
Reveal the Secrets of the Sacred Rose Tarot ~ Steven Culbert, 1996 -- there is a newer book on this deck as well, but if you like the Sacred Rose Tarot deck this is the first one that was published on it and you can definitely learn from both of them.
Robin Wood Tarot: The Book ~ Robin Wood, 1998 -- I've been waiting for YEARS for this book to come out. And when it did, it did NOT disappoint. This is definitely deck-specific to the Robin Wood Tarot deck. It is really worth the money. I can't say that loudly enough.
Rock Art Tarot Book ~ Jerry Roelen, 1997 -- the deck for which this book is written is a very cool, totally different deck illustrated with petroglyphs. Those are aboriginal cave painting type pictures. You will definitely need this book to learn where each one is taken from, since they are all based on *real* petroglyphs that exist throughout the world.....
The Rohrig-Tarot Book ~ Carl-W. Rohrig, et al, 1997 -- beautiful full color glossy book which is really worth the money, and it is deck-specific but you almost don't need the deck, the book is so nice!
Russian Tarot of St. Petersburg ~ Cynthia Giles, 1997 -- this is the largest book that has ever been written for one tarot deck. It has well over 300 pages. A lot of it is Russian history and so it is well worth reading whether you get the deck or not. If you have this deck, though, you will want the book.
The Sacred Tarot : The Ancient Art of Card Reading and the Underlying Spiritual Science (Brotherhood of Light ; Course 6) ~ C.C. Zain, 1994
The Sacred Tarot Unveiled ~ Allyson Walsh, 1994 -- this nifty textbook of tarot has large foldout sheets and diagrams to help the student and sections which are set up like a workbook so you can write in your own notes. Different and has a certain emphasis on prayer with the tarot.
The Sangreal Tarot : A Magical Ritual System of Personal Evolution ~ William G. Gray, 1988
Santa Fe Tarot ~ Holly Huber, et al, 1997 -- The deck this book is written for is illustrated with symbolism from southwestern Native American tribal sand paintings. It is totally unlike anything else you've ever seen. This means you really want the book as well so you can understand everything about it and get the most out of it.
Secret Symbolism of the Tarot ~ Doris C. Doane, 1993
Secrets of Gypsy Fortunetelling (Llewellyn's New Age Series) ~ Raymond Buckland, 1996
The Secrets of the Tarot; Origins, History, and Symbolism ~ Barbara Walker, 1984 -- deck-specific for the Barbara Walker Tarot deck, but you don't have to have that deck to get something from this book. Actually the book came first and then she did the deck to go with it. If you have this deck and you've been wondering what she was thinking when she designed it, you want to read this book.
Self Development With the Tarot ~ Caterine Summers, et al, 1992
Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom: A Book of Tarot ~ Rachel Pollack, 1998 -- this used to be published in TWO volumes but now is available in one big book. It's not cheap but when you think about the fact that it is actually two complete books in one it is well worth the price, plus it is honestly a really good book on tarot. So I definitely recommend it.
Sex Magic, Tantra & Tarot: The Way of the Secret Lover ~ Christopher S. Hyatt, et al, 1991
Sola Busca Tarot ~ Sofia Di Vincenzo, 1998 -- ok, I had a hard time understanding this deck, and admit readily that if I had had this book, things would have been totally different. The Sola Busca Tarot deck, also known as Ancient Illuminating Tarots, is one of the influences of Pamela Colman Smith, creator of the Rider-Waite. Tarot historians will like this book.
The Spirit of Herbs: A Guide to the Herbal Tarot ~ Michael Tierra, Candis Cantin, 1997 -- whether or not you have the Herbal Tarot, the deck that this book is for, this book is a great resource on how herbalism is linked to the tarot. One thing I like to do is use my regular Rider-Waite cards to do a spread and then look up the cards in THIS book to find out which herbs are related to the spread I've just done. Excellent for use in clients' readings when health and energy issues are involved.
Spiral Tarot: A Story of the Cycles of Life ~ Kay Steventon, 1998 -- neat deck. neat book.
Spiritual Tarot: Seventy-Eight Paths to Personal Development ~ Signe E. Echols, et al, 1996 -- getting harder to find this book lately, but what an interesting book it is! for more advanced tarotists rather than beginners.
The Spiritual Tarot: The Keys to the Divine Temple ~ Marie-Claire Wilson, 1996 -- deck-specific book for the PAPA Spiritual Tarot. Neat stuff here. Uses Greek symbolism.

Strategic Intuition for the 21st Century: Tarot for Business ~ James Wanless, 1998 -- the ONLY book out there teaching the use of tarot for business applications, this book is must reading for the corporate tarotist. Planning to go into business for yourself? definitely read this book! Works with the Voyager Tarot deck.

You will want to get a bunch of these to put in the stockings of all your tarot friends!

The Tarot: History, Mystery and Lore ~ Cynthia Giles, 1994 -- instead of teaching you how to use tarot, this is more of a companion book that teaches you WHY there is tarot. It is exactly what it says; tarot history, culture and so on. Very very good book that I use heavily. You should see my copy; all full of highlights, comments and dogeared pages. That's the sign of a really good book.

The Tarot: The Origin, Meaning and Uses of the Cards ~ Alfred Douglas, 1991
Tarot and the Tree of Life: Finding Everyday Wisdom in the Minor Arcana ~ Isabel Radow Kliegman, 1997 -- my other favorite tarot book of all time, this one is the only book in the known galaxy to work exclusively with minor arcana cards in this much detail. Talk about relating to real life. This book is so down-to-earth you will travel MILES in your tarot journey with this one.

Tarot Decoder: Interpret the Symbols of the Tarot and Increase Your Understanding of the Cards ~ Kathleen McCormick, 1998 -- the "Decoder" series of books is a large, full-color glossy paperback (like the size of a thin coffee table book) with tons of great information packaged in a good looking design. There are matching books on other topics such as Palmistry.

Tarot for Every Day : Ideas and Activities for Bringing Tarot Wisdom into Your Daily Life ~ Cait Johnson, 1994 -- great book for the advanced student, it does just what it says. You don't learn how to read tarot with this one, you learn how to play with it in order to learn how it applies to YOU.
Tarot for Lovers ~ Jocelyn Almond, 1996

Tarot: A New Handbook for the Apprentice Vol 1 ~ Eileen Connolly, 1990 -- this is the first one of Connolly's books which are deck-specific for the Connolly Tarot. You have to advance through three levels: Apprentice, Journeyman, Master. It's done in a workbook format so you can write your own notes in it. Good stuff if you are working with this deck and committed to working all the way through the set.
Tarot: A New Handbook for the Apprentice: Classic Rider Waite ~ Eileen Connolly, 1991 -- same basic book as above, but done with the Rider-Waite deck instead of the Connolly deck. There is no Journeyman or Master book done to match for the Rider-Waite though.
The Tarot: A Short Treatise on Reading Cards ~ S. L. MacGregor Mathers, 1993 -- yes it really is short, despite the fact that most books written by Golden Dawn members were quite lengthy and dry.

The Tarot Book: Basic Instruction for Reading Cards ~ Jana Riley, 1992 -- great book that deals pretty much just with the Major Arcana. This means it goes into a LOT of depth for these cards.
Tarot Card Combinations ~ Dorothy Kelly, 1995 -- this is a very thick reference book to keep handy for whenever you get stuck on a combination. Every reader should own this. I mean that. It's that handy. It literally lists every combination of the cards possible (well it sure seems like it) and what it means. Doesn't go into lengthy explanations, it just gives you what you need to know to draw on your own knowledge from that point. Stop waffling and buy it!
Tarot Cards for Fun and Fortune Telling: Illustrated Guide to the Spreading and Interpretation of the Popular 78-Card Tarot I JJ Deck of Muller & cie ~ Stuart R. Kaplan, 1989 -- pretty much says it all right there! deck-specific to the 1JJ Tarot deck.
Tarot Classic ~ Stuart R. Kaplan, 1979 -- and then you have this one which is deck-specific to the Tarot Classic, a modern reprint of a Marseille-style tarot deck.
Tarot Constellations: Patterns of Personal Destiny ~ Mary K. Greer, 1987
Tarot Dictionary and Compendium ~ Jana Riley, 1995 -- another excellent reference and resource book for the advanced student of tarot, but can be used by beginners as well. Just so long as you don't buy it as your first book! What I like about it is it gives side-by-side comparisons from one deck to another.
Tarot Divination ~ Aleister Crowley, 1976
Tarot for Yourself ~ Mary K. Greer, 1987 -- one of the most recommended books for tarot beginners of all time, and there's a good reason for it, it's excellent! Laid out in a large format paperback, this book is chock-full of good and *useable* information.

Tarot of Love Book ~ Von Rohr, et al, 1997 -- the Tarot of Love deck, for which this book is written, is designed to aim for working with relationships between couples and so this book has a whole fresh perspective that you don't get in many other books. You might like it even if you don't use the deck.

Tarot of the Cat People ~ Karen Kuykendall, 1992 -- you definitely need this book if you are using the Cat People deck. It is based on strong sci-fi fictional material and so the book supplies what you need to understand the imagery in the cards.

Tarot of the Spirit ~ Pamela Eakins, Joyce Eakins, 1992 -- HUGE book on one deck, the Tarot of the Spirit. Not cheap, but well worth the money when you see what all is included. Illustrated.
The Tarot of the Witches Book : The Only Complete and Authentic Illustrated Guide to the Spreading and Interpretation of the Popular Tarot of the Witches ~ Stuart R. Kaplan, 1989
Tarot Spells (Llewellyn's New Age Tarot Series) ~ Janina Renee, 1990 -- have you ever wanted to use your deck for more than just readings? then you should definitely check this book out!
Tarot Symbolism ~ Robert O'Neill, 1994 -- all about tarot from a historical standpoint. Really worth checking out if you're into learning where your tarot came from. Find out what the cards mean because you understand what the creators were thinking. From one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting!
Tarot Unveiled: The Method to Its Magic ~ Laura A. Clarson, 1990 -- works with the Hanson-Roberts deck but everything that is used here can be applied to the Rider-Waite deck as well as most of its clones. This book is really good for learning to apply the "classic" meanings of the cards to "modern" life. Highly recommended.

Tarot Celebrations: Honoring the Inner Voice ~ Nancy Brady Cunningham, Geraldine Amaral, 1997 -- a really cool book which focuses entirely on the Major Arcana and uses the Morgan-Greer deck to illustrate. This is one of my most recommended books for the next step after the student has read Bunning.
Tarot For Beginners ~ P. Scott Hollander, 1995 -- the Beginners series from Llewellyn cuts through all the fancy stuff and goes right for the heart of the matter. This one is no exception. Takes tarot literally and gives you the meat and potatoes of reading.

The Tarot of the Orishas: The Bi-Lingual English/Spanish Guide to All 77 Cards of the Orisha Tarot ~ Zolrak, Durkon, 1995 -- the title pretty much sums it up. Deck-specific to the Orishas tarot by Llewellyn.

Tarot Plain and Simple ~ Anthony Louis, 1996 -- this was the first book to work with the Robin Wood tarot deck. It's a really good book to learn from. It really is plain and simple. Straightforward facts and meanings.

Voyager Tarot, Way of the Great Oracle ~ James Wanless, 1998 -- excellent, as is anything by Wanless. The first great book using the Voyager Tarot.
