Tarocchi Marvel by Claudio Villa   Comic book lovers, take heart!  This is indeed the Marvel of Marvel Comics fame.  This deck, a 22- card Major Arcana only presentation from Lo Scarabeo, is filled with many of the superheros straight from the pages of Marvel Comics.   I sat down and discussed the selection of each hero portrayed in each of the 22 cards with a friend of mine who is a real fan of Marvel Comics.  Not being a comics lover myself, I wanted the input of someone more well-versed in the style and symbolism of the heroes involved.  With our combined expertise, we came to the eventual conclusion that most of the heros chosen for these cards do indeed embody the archetype behind the meaning of the card to which they are assigned.   Symbolism notwithstanding, I still feel that this would represent more of an art collectible rather than a deck made for reading.  It was only produced in a limited run, and so availability may be scarce.  The one I had for review came from a comic shop rather than a tarot shop.   The cards themselves are larger than standard and would make good coffee table editions.  Shuffling wouldn't be terribly difficult due to the small amount of cards in the deck.  The card stock is somewhat stiff as befits a collectible.  I'm not really sure I would recommend shuffling them much at any rate, it would deteriorate the deck's value.   Overall, I recommend this deck for anyone who is a collector of Marvel Comics items, as well as the collector of weird and unusual tarot decks.  The art is exceptionally good in it and is consistent with the style used throughout the comics' history.   Click here for pictures   or here to return   Please use your browser's back button to return from pictures   Review Copyright 1998 by Gina M.
