Hudes Tarot
 by Susan Hudes

This is one of the most attractive versions of a traditional symbolism tarot, following the trend set by the Rider-Waite, that I have seen in years.  Susan Hudes, the artist, is a talented painter who has created special backgrounds for these cards using constellation charts, old world maps, leaves, marbleized papers, and abstracts.

The cards are without exception pretty and unoffensive to any, the reader would be able to use these for just about any client or situation.  Additionally, since the symbolism is easy to follow, and also traditional, just about any book on tarot would be able to be used to learn this deck.

The suits used are Swords, Cups, Wands and Pentacles.  The cards are a standard size and shuffle easily.  The colors used are warm and vibrant, with a lot of paisley and marbled patterns included as well.  The figures in the pictures are typically English-looking.  They all have somber expressions on their faces, but this is consistent with portrait styles of that time period.  It is only within our own century that people were encouraged to smile and say cheese....  The period appears to be pre-Renaissance.

I recommend this deck to anyone who is looking for a better version of the Rider-Waite, or simply a comfortable deck.
