Goddesses Knowledge
Cards
paintings by Susan Seddon Boulet
text by Michael Babcock
This is not a tarot deck,
nor a divination deck of any kind, really. But it is one of the most
breathtaking sets of cards I have ever seen (of course I have always been
a huge fan of Boulet's paintings) but it can be tremendously helpful when
used in conjunction with some of the many goddess-oriented tarot decks
and oracular systems that are out there. Use these cards like flash
cards to learn your goddesses.
There are 48 cards in
this nice tidy little pack, each one bears a specific goddess' likeness.
Goddesses have been chosen from a variety of cultures including, but not
limited to, Greek, Roman, Celtic, Native American and Egyptian. The
designs have no borders, so you get the entire face of the card covered
with beautiful work by Boulet. The backs of the cards are filled
with a meditative type text piece describing each goddess, how she came
to be, how the culture that she presided over revered her, what qualities
one aspires to when working with that goddess, etc.
There are several ways
of using the cards, which are really meant for use as a learning and "appreciation"
tool in keeping with the recent reawakening of goddess appreciation in
the world today. One way to use them is to draw a random card each
morning and seek to bring those qualities embodied by that goddess into
your life during the course of the day. Another is to draw a card
when you are in need and it can often point out graceful ways to overcome
the challenges. Of course, they are great when you are using a goddess-oriented
tarot or oracle deck and get stuck on the significance of a particular
goddess. One woman I know uses them on her goddess altar.
Since this is not a tarot
deck, there are no suits or court cards, no arcana of any kind. Just
48 of the most beautiful works of goddess art you've ever seen. The
cards are kind of short and square, making the deck kind of chunky in your
hands, but not difficult to handle. Now that I have seen these, I
know why I found the Shapeshifter
Tarot so disappointing..... Susan Seddon Boulet had the corner of the
market on the shapeshifters.
I highly, highly recommend
this deck as an addition to any collectors, especially those who are interested
in art, and most especially those who seek feminine empowerment.
Boulet fans, take note: Susan Seddon Boulet passed away in 1997,
so all that is left out there of her work is all there will ever be.
Don't miss a chance to own a small gold mine of her best work.
