Gill Tarot
by Elizabeth Josephine Gill

I found this deck to be surprisingly intriguing.  I suppose I expected it to be just like a lot of other decks I've seen, but the imagery is striking and vibrant.  The colors used are alive and the figures are believable, the artwork extremely well-done.

I feel that the most unusual thing about this deck is the artist's treatment of the Minor Arcana.  There is no full scene picture, rather there is a large number of the card, with a stylized detail of the suit involved.  Each one is very different.  The number itself just jumps out at you, and grabs you by the horns, and says "Look at me."

The deck itself is shorter and wider than standard but is comfortable to hold and shuffle.  The cards are flexible enough as well.  The suits are Swords, Wands, Cups and Disks.  I wonder if Pentacles was too pagan for the artist's taste.  There is no nudity or denominational imagery in this deck, so it would be good to use for readings for a wide variety of clients.

All of the cards in the Minor Arcana, court cards, and numbered suit cards, have keyword interpretations figured into the bottom of the card to give a hint as to the depth of the meaning of the card.  However, the pictures are good enough to give a lot of this meaning without the keywords.

I really like this deck, and recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone for use.
