Enochian Tarot
by Gerald and Betty Schueler
illustrated by Sallie Ann Glassman

This is a very hard tarot system that I will admit completely lost me within the first ten cards.  Although this deck is available individually, it should, in my opinion, be sold as a deck-and-book set only.  It is too completely different from a traditional tarot.

There are, for starters, 86 cards instead of the usual 78.  The system the deck is based on is Enochian Magick, a system which relies heavily on ritual and ceremony.  Enochian Magick is Angels Magick for the serious, as opposed to trendy angels fluff that is all over the market today.

The cards are larger than standard but shuffle fairly easily.  There are 30 Major Arcana cards in this deck, published by Llewellyn's.  I'd say there were cards added but it is more like they are changed around so much it is hard to tell which are the new ones.  The suits are likewise all different.  There are four suits, that is the same as traditional.  The suits are Earth, Air, Fire and Water.  In each suit, instead of numbered cards and court cards, there is just a series of fourteen cards named as follows:

King of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
First Senior of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Second Senior of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Third Senior of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Fourth Senior of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Fifth Senior of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Sixth Senior of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Higher Sephirothic Cross Angels of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Lesser Sephirothic Cross Angels of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Kerubic Angels of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Archangels of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Ruling Angels of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Lesser Angels of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)
Demons of Earth (Air, Fire, Water)

This is easily one of the most difficult systems of tarot I have ever tried to figure out.  I can tell it would be worth it, for the person who is committed to working with it and who works with high magick.  In most cases with tarot systems, one can learn the system along with the tarot.  In this case I am strongly convinced that only practitioners of Enochian Magick with some experience can figure this deck out.

I'd recommend this deck for anyone who practices ceremonial magick of a sort who might be able to figure these cards out.  It's not a deck for beginners of any kind.  It is very nice artwise, illustrated by the artist who did the New Orleans VooDoo Tarot.  I imagine it would have some interest for collectors, but not for me.
