Daughters of
the Moon Tarot
by Ffiona Morgan

Well, I thought the Tarot of the Cloisters and the Motherpeace Tarot were large decks!  This one is even larger, and round as well.  I could barely keep a hold of it while browsing through it.  However, the deck is a visual banquet, vibrant and alive with images from all over the world.  Very much a multi-cultural deck.

The cards are designed with the feminist in mind.  There are no men in the deck that I saw, with the exception of Pan, who is looking mighty androgenous, and a lovers card which has two persons of completely indetermined gender on it.  This lovers card was made so that the lesbian lovers card which is the main card for the deck can be set aside by those who don't like it.

There is a lot of nudity and the deck is pretty graphic in places.  The colors used are vivid and the imagery is strong but well-done.  The cards are bordered with different bright colors as well, which lends them a warmth.  The Major Arcana cards are not numbered and their titles are changed a lot, which alters the meanings of quite a few of them, but not detrimentally.

The suits are Flames, Cups, Blades and Pentacles. The major change here is that the Court cards are completely reconceptualized to become Maiden, Mother and Crone instead of the King, Queen, Knight and Page you normally expect.  This change is totally suited for use with the rest of this deck and it's nice to see the kind of consistency that is displayed here.

The Daughters of the Moon Tarot is published independently.
