Tarot of the Cloisters
 by Michelle Leavitt

This is the first of the round tarot decks that I have ever reviewed.  I have been wanting to add this deck to my collection for over a year now and I can happily say that, after carefully reviewing it and handling it, I still do.

The artwork is designed to resemble "rose" or round stained-glass windows from thirteenth century European cathedrals.  These are extremely pretty cards.  The actual symbolism worked into the card design is traditional in nature, similar to the Rider pack.  Readers accustomed to the Rider deck will have no trouble adjusting to this one.

Since the cards are round, there are no reversed meanings, which will suit some readers who don't use them anyway.  The size of them, almost five inches in diameter, is large for handling, and shuffling is difficult due to the round shape of the cards.  However, it is not impossible.

The suits are Swords, Vessels, Staves and Pentacles.  The Major Arcana and the Minor alike have full pictures and are very colorful and easy to understand.  The round cards actually have a nice feel to them.  I fully recommend this deck to anyone who is looking for a round deck, or just for something different and attractive.
