This
is one of the decks I have which is not specifically a Tarot deck.
However it is meant to be used for divination purposes along a different
system, that of the Druidic Ogham. I received this set as a gift
from a special friend.
Similarly
to runic decks, there are 25 cards in this deck. The Celtic system
is divided into five sets of five cards which are related to a tree alphabet
in use for both divination and for ritual writing itself. The deck
comes boxed in a neat wooden box with a liftoff lid and a label is pasted
on it front and back.
Personally,
while I love the artwork, I find the system used with the cards to be awkward
and muddy. There is a hardbound book contained with the set (you
can't buy the deck without buying a set) which explains nicely about each
card but the system itself is difficult to learn and use. The art, however,
is beautiful beyond compare.
I
found it was much easier to use the deck in terms of learning the Ogham
alphabet for writing than for use in divination. However, I feel
this way about runes too, so it's not a big surprise. Many people
get a lot out of runes for divination, though, so this would also apply
here. If you like to use rune cards, you will find this deck a refreshing
challenge.
The Druidic Ogham is a celtic system of alphabetic rune-like characters which correlate to trees and their significance. I have seen better systems in use for divining with Oghams, using sticks or even rune-like coins, but many people like to use a card-based system. This set is completely different from anything else on the market and so it will appeal to many collectors just for that reason alone.
