These little cards (and I do mean little!) are not to be confused with the Bach Flower Color Cards by Wulfing Von Rohr and Ingrid Kraaz which were in print several years ago. They are a kind of "flash card" system for use with the Bach Flower Remedies. There's no booklet with this deck, but since there is a vast amount of literature available both on and by Bach, pretty much anyone can use these cards. They would go with just about any one of those books.
The Bach Flower Remedies uses flowers for meditative self-healing techniques. They have been growing in popularity for many years now, as more and more people turn to alternative healing methods for basically fixing what's wrong in their lives and affirming what is right. These cards are not illustrated, but they do have the name of the flower involved in each remedy at the bottom of each little card. With each flower, a main meditation theme is given at the top, and several "thoughts" on that theme are also given.
An instruction card which comes with the deck leads the reader to relax the body and mind, calm the emotions, and select three cards upon which to meditate. Supposedly the meditation will draw you to understand how to apply the flower remedies to heal your life. The card further instructs the user that the actual flower remedies themselves (in extract form, I expect) are available at most health food stores. I know I have seen them in the stores.
My personal thoughts are that the Bach Flower Remedies could be extremely helpful in healing the soul and, since they are available in stores, for enhancing your health as well. Do *not* use these in place of proper medical attention for serious health matters! Additionally, while these cards would be helpful as a flash card system, I would suggest, as well as having a book that explains the Bach Flower Remedies in depth, a picture book of herbs and flowers that you could use to refer to when you draw cards. It helps to have at least one, possibly more, picture of the flower you are supposed to be meditating on.
The cards themselves are small, even smaller than a poker deck. There are 39 flower cards, as the original Bach Flower system uses 39 flower remedies. These cards are especially easy to handle and shuffle and are probably really convenient to tote around in a pocket or purse for travel. They are printed on standard card stock and coated with a protective gloss. The cards are all in a monochromatic teal color and the back design is a yin yang type image. The edges are buffed smooth with rounded corners.
Since there is no accompanying booklet, I'd say it was really kind of important to be at least somewhat familiar with the Bach Flower Remedies before buying this deck. There isn't a book specially recommended for use with it, which gives you pretty much free rein in selecting a book written for the subject. I'd only recommend them for use within this type of environment. Without any knowledge of the Flower Remedies, the cards are not terribly helpful or even really interesting. In use with the system, however, they would be very enlightening.
