Adrian Tarot
by Adrian Bernhard Koehli

I really thought this deck was going to be more interesting than it was, when I got it.  Actually, I shouldn't say that, it is interesting.  It just doesn't interest me.  The style of art is very modern and it has a distinct European feel to it, but it left me cold.  Even the colors in it are all cool ones, and I never thought red could be a cool color till now.

All the cards are rendered in the same style.  There is an open feeling to them which is due to the lack of background.  It looks as though 78 different models were photographed nude in a totally white room, and then computer imagery was used to paint clothing of a sort over the sensitive areas of the body.  Different natural items such as shells and animals are then montaged over this, and abstract line drawings are laid atop the whole picture.

Titles on the cards are in both German and English.  The Major Arcana have traditional titles, and the Minor Arcana have the traditional suits of Cups, Wands, Swords and Pentacles.  The numbered cards are more or less pip cards with the line drawings over them.  Court cards are King, Queen, Knight and Page.

The deck is longer than standard and shuffles fairly easily due to its polished edges.  The card stock used is very nice.  The accompanying booklet gives better descriptions of the cards and meanings than is usual for its type.  Several layouts are described, including, but not limited to, the Celtic Cross.

I get the impression this is meant to be a "sexy" deck.  However, it failed to fire up my imagination that way.  It is probably one of those "love it or hate it" decks.  You could not really use this to read for clients unless you were certain of your audience.
